Batu Kawan. A well known area for seafood among Penangites.
Politically, it was a new Parliament constituency gazette in 2004. Prior to
that, Batu Kawan & Bukit Tambun falls under the Nibong Tebal Parliament
Constituency. Huan Cheng Guan, the former Air Force serviceman was elected as
the MP in 2004 with a majority of 8998 votes. Since then, much development was
introduce during that period. That includes encouraging more to venture into agriculture,
second link Penang bridge launched, new jetty to Pulau Aman, job oppurtunities,
Penang Science Park amd many more. PDC under the BN administration had many
project that would have benefitted the Rakyat. Now as the former MP of Batu
Kawan, Huan CG & PCM will not tolerate for our own people to be let to live
surrounded with a ‘TIME BOMB’.
The 1st damage by PR administrative was the
damage towards Bukit Batu Kawan for red soil. Now more damage being done
without the consideration of the locals. Lim Guan Eng & Phee Boon Poh is
confident of the safety of the plant that to be build. But is it safe from
nature disaster. It is wise for one to be alert before a disaster take place.
Im sure its still fresh in everyone’s mind and heart on the damage occurred during
the recent Japan tsunami. The nuclear plant which was build to stand evan for earthquake
disaster, took a turn when tsunami stroke. Japan who are the specialist and who have the expertise, struggled to control the Nuclear plant when it was damaged during the tsunami. The release of gas and chemicals
during nature is un-preventable. That’s a disaster we should take into account to
fight for our safety.
How many of us know about the Bhopal Disaster in 1984? It
was a gas leak incident in India that claimed thousands of lives. The leak of
methyl isocyanate gas and other chemicals did not only caused death, but many
left handicapped & disable. A government affidavit in 2006 stated the leak caused 558,125
injuries including 38,478 temporary partial and approximately 3,900 severely
and permanently disabling injuries.
We have to bear in mind, why do we need investors who will
bring damages to the nature and people. Currently whenever there is earthquake in Jakarta or surrounding area of it, the tremors could be felt in Penang. Let that alone, tsunami which strike Penang was another natural disaster that shocked all Malaysians. Can we assure that natural disaster will not cause any damage to the planned plant? Do we have the capabilities & expertise to handle an unwanted situation? Lets demand to the State Government to
make a stand on this issue. Elected representative of the area of Batu Kawan
& Bukit Tambun should stand with the people and not with some arrogant
leaders and state policy. Lets Unite, for the sake of our future generation.
